tyler-burmeisterTyler Burmeister has been the Assistant Director since the 2015-16 season.  Tyler has been playing with the band since the 2012-13 season and is excited to share his conducting skills to help further develop the ensemble’s musical performances.

Tyler attended Northern Michigan University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Music Education in 2008.  While at Northern Michigan he performed on trumpet with the Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, University Orchestra, and various other chamber ensembles.  He also sang and performed in several concerts as a member of the University Choir.  Tyler served for two years as the Equipment Manager for the Marching Band and also served one year as the president of the NMU Friends of Jazz student organization.

Tyler completed his student teaching assignment at Lombardi Middle School in Green Bay, WI with supervising teacher Mr. Joe McCabe.  Tyler then began his music education career by accepting a position teaching middle school and high school band for the Flambeau School District in northern Wisconsin.  During his four years of teaching at Flambeau the high school band, middle school band, and high school jazz band all received top ratings at local music festivals.  Many of his high school band students also advanced to the State level of the WSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival and were selected to participate in the UW-Eau Claire high school honors band.

Tyler has continued to advance his conducting skills by attending various workshops at the Wisconsin State Music Conference in Madison, WI and the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL.  He also attended the 2012 Wisconsin Music Summit at UW-Madison, led by director of bands Mr. Scott Teeple.  Other guest conductors at the festival that year included H. Robert Reynolds from USC and Craig Kirchhoff from the University of Minnesota.

Tyler currently teaches 5th grade beginning band at four different elementary schools for the Wauwatosa School District.  He lives in Milwaukee with his wife Stephanie, and two children, Braeden (5) and Mckenzie (2).  Tyler would like to thank all of his family members and former music teachers for their support and encouragement of all his musical endeavors.
