tyler-burmeisterTyler Burmeister began playing trumpet in 4th grade and continued all the way through high school. Tyler graduated from Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School in Jackson, WI, and then travelled to Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI to study music education. While at NMU, he studied trumpet under Dr. Mark Flaherty and also studied privately with retired principal trumpet of the Milwaukee Symphony, Richard Metzger. Tyler performed in many ensembles during his time at NMU, including Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, and other chamber ensembles. While a member of the NMU Jazz Band, Tyler performed in the annual NMU Jazz Festival with the following guest artists: Mike Stern, Steve Turre, Bob Mintzer and Bobby Shew. He also was awarded as an outstanding soloist at the 2007 UW-Eau Claire Jazz Festival. Tyler graduated from Northern Michigan University in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education.

Tyler began playing with Milwaukee Festival Brass during the 2012-13 season, originally playing 2nd and 3rd cornet.  After playing several concerts on cornet and one on flugelhorn, he decided to try a new challenge and began playing the baritone horn, quickly adapting his brass skills to the unique sound of the baritone horn. Tyler was selected as the Assistant Director of Milwaukee Festival Brass for the 2015-16 season.
