MILWAUKEE FESTIVAL BRASS OPEN AUDITIONS

August 23, 2016 & August 30, 2016

St. John’s Lutheran Church
20275 Davidson Road
Brookfield, WI 53045

Milwaukee Festival Brass has openings for talented Brass and Percussion players interested in performing with Southeastern Wisconsin’s premier Brass Band. Every seat and position within the ensemble is open for assignment at the start of each new season – there are no “chairs for life” in Milwaukee Festival Brass.

Modeled on a traditional British Brass Band the band uses the following instrumentation:

  • 1 Eb Soprano Cornet (in lieu of Piccolo Trumpet)
  • 9 or more Bb Cornets (in lieu of Bb Trumpet)
  • 1 Bb Flugelhorn
  • 3 Eb Tenor Horns (in lieu of French Horn)
  • 2 Bb Baritone Horns
  • 2 Bb Euphoniums
  • 3 Bb Trombones
  • 1 Bass Trombone
  • 2 Eb Tubas
  • 3 BBb Tubas
  • 3 or 4 Percussionists (Drum Set, Tympani, etc.)

The Milwaukee Festival Brass, uses a unique, two-round approach to auditions.

  • ROUND 1 – Principal and Independent Chair Auditions
  • ROUND 2 – Section Chair Auditions

Following the completion of ROUND 1, players assigned to principal and Independent chairs will be contacted and offered the position. Those who audition as a principal but are not offered the position will automatically be considered for remaining positions in the section and will not need to audition further.

  • ROUND 1 auditions will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016.
  • ROUND 2 auditions will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016

Auditions will consist of: required excerpts, choice solo or excerpt, sightreading.

Please email the Personnel Manager, Joe Bratz (jbratz@mfbrass.org), for required excerpts and to schedule an audition time.
